Festival of Languages

Last week we had our festival of languages competition. This is where we retell our speech in our own language. It is also a time that we can show off some of our traditional dress. Ruma Ono did really well with many students taking a position in the top three for their language. Here are some shots from the day.

What do you ......

See..
wrinkles, gold bands, bandanna, old lady with a long neck and earrings.

Think...
An empress from China, in her mid 90's, she has cancer, her neck is broken, no hair, she is of major importance, she is showing off her traditional dress.

Wonder...
where is she, where was the photo taken, what country is she from, why does she have those around her neck, can they come off? Is she in some kind of trouble.

These are our thoughts from this photo. We also had to write and expand on these ideas. After we compared our reasons to with the video to see if we were on the right track.

UROCK Day

Last week the school had their UROCK Day. This is where children who had earned enough vouchers were allowed to have a block of hard earned fun. This term the Kahikatea team had a masquerade ball and had to create their masks to go. We also had some good old fashioned party games like pass the parcel and the ballon stomp. Here some pics and video of the day.

Great start to the season!!!

Well done to both of our school basketball teams who played really well for the first game of the season. A big ooh rah to my team the Somerset Slammers who won 34-4 against Russell St. You all played extremely well and with a U ROCK attitude, which and the end of the day matters the most and what really makes you winners!!!!!!!!!

why I should be in the On Track Team

This week we had to write why we would be the right person to go on the On Track Team. It was really hard to write trying to sell ourselves as we felt a bit stink doing it. Here are some examples.

Firstly: I am a very helpful guy that cares for this school. Here are some reason why. I care, people trust me, and Mr Howard lets me get stuff for him.
Secondly: I help people in Pasifica Pride. People believe that I am a nice boy here at Somerset Crescent school.
Thirdy: I do what people ask and I dont talk back. I help my sisters cross the road.
In conclusion this is why I should be in the on track team.

What does it take for me to be on the On Track Team.

It takes support, encouragement, confidence, being able to stand up for yourself and others, responsibility and taking challenges that you try in and include others.
I believe I have these talents to be on the On Track Team. I'll do anything in my heart to keep the Somerset Kids safe from harm.

Measure, measure, measure!

For the next to weeks we are looking at length and area and hopefully some of us will get to do volume. We have looked at why we don't use non standard units to measure with and why it is important to be accurate when measuring. In these photos we had to measure all different lengths of lines and if you look closely you can see that we had to work out how to measure wiggly lines aswell!!
